Government Sites
Accident Compensation Corporation
ACC is the sole provider of work injury insurance, compulsory for all employers in New Zealand. The site
provides information on employer obligations for workplace accident cover.
Business Information Zone
This Government business portal is designed to promote good business practices and make it easier for New
Zealand companies to do business. The site provides a central source to information on taxes, grants,
starting a business, OSH and more.
Companies Office
The Companies Office site features an online database, where you can search for information on
company shareholders and directors. You can also register a company online.
Department of Labour
This site contains basic information on laws relating to the workplace and outlines the main rights and
obligations of employers and employees.
Employment Relations Service
For general information on employment law and answers to common questions, check out the Department of Labour's
new Employment Relations Service website.
Foundation for Research Science and Technology
The Government's largest investor in innovation, this foundation has $237 million currently available through various funding schemes.
Inland Revenue Department
Get detailed information on GST, income tax, student loans, business tax, and employer obligations.
Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand (IPONZ)
IPONZ examine applications for New Zealand patents, trade marks and designs; grant patents; register
trade marks and designs; and maintain a register of patents, trade marks and designs.
Ministry of Consumer Affairs
The Ministry provides consumer and trader information and education, policy advice to the Government on consumer laws,
investigates unsafe products, and ensures that market transactions based on weight and measurement are accurate,
fair and consistent with international standards.
Ministry of Economic Development
The Ministry of Economic Development is the Government's primary advisor on issues related to economic, industry,
and regional development. It is also the Government's primary advisor on the operation of markets and overall
business performance.
Ministry of Research, Science and Technology
This Ministry develops research and innovation policy, and manages the publicly funded part of the research,
science and technology system.
New Zealand Trade & Enterprise
New Zealand Trade & Enterprise is the Government's trade and economic development agency, formed through the
merger of Trade New Zealand and Industry New Zealand. This site provides information on the services that
NZTE offers businesses, including business development, export services, sector development and regional
development.
New Zealand Venture Investment Fund
Established in August 2001 with $100 million of Government capital, the Fund aims to accelerate the development
of a venture capital market.
Occupational Safety and Health Service (OSH)
The OSH Service assists and guides employers and others to actively manage safety and health in their workplaces,
as set out in the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992.
Reserve Bank of New Zealand
This site holds historical data on key economic indicators such as wholesale interest rates and GDP.
Skill New Zealand
Skill New Zealand supports workplace learning that
raises skills and boosts competitive advantage for business. Their aim is to improve access to
structured training in the workplace throughout people's working lives.
Statistics New Zealand
Statistics New Zealand is New Zealand's national statistical office, and the country's major source
of official statistics (business and general).
Technology New Zealand
Details on funding schemes available to small to medium sized organisations.
Tourism Research Council of New Zealand
Government's core tourism data is now available on the Tourism Research Council's website.
Information includes international visitor numbers, domestic visitor numbers, regional analysis and a
range of other survey results.
